Do you need our fiber optic cables, interface/monitor and battery charger to calibrate our probe?

We do not need fiber optic cables, interface/monitor and battery charger to calibrate:

  • Amplifier Research FL Series (Laser Powered Probes)
    Examples: FL7006, FL7218
  • Amplifier Research FP Series
    Old Style:FP2000, FP2080, FP6001
    New Style:FP7018, FP7050
  • Holaday HI Series
    Examples: HI-4422, HI-6005, HI-4455
  • ETS-Lindgren HI Series
    Examples: HI-6105, HI-6053, HI-6022
  • Wandel & Goltermann/Narda EMC, EMR Series
    Examples: EMC-20 2244/90.20, EMR-200 2244/90.20

These units do require accessories to calibrate:

  • Narda PMM EP & NBM Series: We need the battery charger, fiber optic cables, fiber optic cable adapter (to connect to a computer); on the PMM EP series we need the mounting pedestal (has ¼ 20 mounting hole, probe "snaps" on to the other end).
    Examples: PMM EP601, NBM520 or 550
  • Narda 8700 & 8600 Series: We need the battery charger (if unit has charging port) & the cable that connects the probe to monitor if used.
    Examples: 8722, 8623
  • EMC Test Design: Need battery charger if used, fiber optic cables, and interface
  • General Microwave Corporation: Need battery charger, if used, and cable that connects monitor and probe if used
  • IFI (Instruments for Industry) EFS Series: Need battery charger if unit has charging port

What is the data you sent with our probe and how do I use it?

When you receive your probe back from Liberty Calibration, there will be "Multiplier" and "dB" values listed on the datasheet. Depending on the model and calibration requirements, there may be a single column or multiple columns.

The "Multiplier" (on some datasheet it is abbreviated "Mult" because of space limitations) is the Reference (established with our probe) divided by the actual reading (the reading from the client's probe). For example, we set up our probe at 100MHz and establish a 15V/m field, and then set up the client's probe and it reads 14V/m. The multiplier would then be 1.07 (15 ÷ 14 = 1.07). Therefore, when the probe is used in the client's test set up at 100MHz, the reading is multiplied by 1.07.

The "dB" value is the ratio of the Reference and actual readings and is calculated using this equation: dB = 20*Log(multiplier value). If you are using a software program to take readings from the probe, you may be able to put the correction factors of the probe into the program. Most software programs use the multiplier values, but some use the dB value.

Probe & Magnetic Field Meter Shipping Tips

  1. Use shipping case designed for probe/magnetic field meter; we have probes/magnetic field meters come in cardboard boxes or a case not designed for the unit, and there is usually damage to the probe/magnetic field meter.
  2. If your unit uses a toggle switch to power the unit on/off (examples: HI-4422, FP2080), tape the switch in the "off" position - even in the correct shipping case, the unit can be accidentally switched on; this will discharge the battery and require longer charging time before the unit can be calibrated.
  3. If the battery or batteries can be easily removed from the unit (examples: Wandel & Goltermann/Narda EMC, EMR Series, F.W. Bell Magnetic Field Meters), remove them from the unit and place them in the shipping case. This will prevent the unit from being accidentally switched on.
